Anna G. Mirer, MD, PhD, MPH (She/Her)
Dr. Mirer is a family physician working in Milwaukee. Born in rural upstate New York, she is the uncreative black sheep in a family of chaotic artists. She spent her adolescence making questionable decisions in New York City before squeaking her way into, and then out of, college. She taught Head Start in New Mexico, and got her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at UC Berkeley, before embarking on an unintentionally long course of study in the MD-PhD program at UW-Madison that spanned three presidencies. Despite her doctorate in Epidemiology nobody listened to her when she told them COVID was coming. Heroically overcoming her aversion to early rising, she made it through Family Medicine residency, and made a good faith effort at fitting into corporate medicine before noping out to start her own Direct Primary Care practice.
Family medicine is the perfect career for Dr. Mirer because it always offers something new to learn, and she copes poorly with boredom. Her medical interests include reproductive health, primary care for neurodivergent patients, gender affirming care, size-neutral medicine, mental health, and opioid use disorder treatment. Her likes include speculative fiction, musicals, and dogs. Her dislikes include mean people, professional dress codes, and meat. She is an absolute murderer at pub trivia, and you should tell her early if you don’t like swear words. She looks forward to getting to know you and serving as your doctor.
Shanae Alexander, MA (She/Her)
Shanae is not the sort of person who would willingly talk about herself long enough to fill two paragraphs, or who would write about herself in the third person. So that means I (Dr. Mirer) have the great pleasure of introducing you to her.
A lifelong Milwaukeean, Shanae has worked as a Medical Assistant in the field of Family Medicine for over a decade. She is an avid reader who enjoys volunteering with her congregation, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Yes, you read that last part right, but despite the fact that Shanae never ages there is absolutely no evidence that she is Fae—I’ve checked. I would list her dislikes but she rarely admits to disliking anything.
Shanae and I worked together closely back when I was in the insurance-based system, and it was always my dream to work with her again. I was thrilled when she came to join me at Presence in 2026. One of our former coworkers once told her, “You and Dr. Mirer work together like peanut butter and jelly.” It’s the perfect metaphor because Shanae is the sweet one, and I am the one some people love and some people are allergic to. If anything goes right with your experience with us, assume it’s Shanae’s doing.
Find Dr. Mirer on social media. She’s delightful!
